Cherbourg Outreach
Our connection with the Cherbourg community began through a remarkable story of God’s redeeming grace.
Many years ago, Fishers of Men met a man named Richard, who was living homeless in Beenleigh and struggling with alcohol addiction. Through an encounter with the love, hope, and saving power of Jesus Christ, Richard’s life was transformed. Free from the grip of addiction, he was able to rebuild relationships with his family, rediscover purpose, and embrace a new future. Richard was originally from Cherbourg, and through his story, God began opening a door for a deeper connection with that community.
Sometime later, three respected Elders from Cherbourg approached Fishers of Men and invited us to become involved in supporting their community. They shared their concerns about challenges facing local families and asked if we would partner with them in bringing encouragement, practical support, and the message of hope found in Christ. We recognised this invitation as both a privilege and a calling, and we gladly responded.
Since that time, Fishers of Men has remained committed to serving the Cherbourg community through regular outreach events, working alongside local people, the AIM church, and community leaders. Teams from churches across Brisbane have travelled to Cherbourg with practical resources such as clothing, toys, gifts, and food. We share a BBQ, run children’s activities, build relationships, and encourage one another through the message of the Gospel.
While our contribution is small, we have witnessed time and again the faithfulness of God at work among the people of Cherbourg. We believe that Jesus loves the community deeply and that His desire is to bring hope, healing, restoration, and purpose to every life. Any positive impact we have seen is not our doing alone, but the result of God moving through willing hearts and strong community partnerships.
It is a tremendous honour to be welcomed into Cherbourg, and we remain grateful for the opportunity to serve, to build relationships, and to share the love of Christ wherever He opens a door.
