First Stage can support 12 men recover from addiction
“By wisdom a house is built and by understanding it is established”.
Proverbs 24:3
The Stage 1 house in Springwood offers a safe and structured environment to help men break free from addiction. This large, welcoming home features six spacious bedrooms, two lounge rooms, two bathrooms, and a generous outdoor undercover area, providing a comfortable and supportive space for up to 12 residents, including 2 leaders.
Our program operates under a registered therapeutic model and is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers. Strict guidelines ensure residents remain focused on their recovery, including a prohibition on contact with previous destructive relationships (e.g., drug dealers) and financial boundaries to limit access to unhelpful influences.
Participation and Growth
Residents are expected to actively engage in the house’s structured program, which includes:
- Completion of Phase 1 and 2 of “Growing Deep and Strong,” a foundational Christian discipleship program.
- Attendance at scheduled appointments with doctors, counselors, and a Christian psychologist partnered with Fishers of Men.
- Full participation in all planned house activities designed to promote personal growth, community, and accountability.
Progression and Responsibility
After six months, residents may be eligible for a gradual reintroduction of individual freedoms based on their progress and a case-by-case assessment. These freedoms are carefully monitored to ensure residents can manage increased responsibilities without jeopardizing their recovery.
Focus on Transformation
The primary goal of the program is to help residents transition away from life-controlling behaviors and build their lives around Christ. This process often includes:
- Identifying and pursuing personal goals.
- Developing essential life skills (e.g., obtaining a driver’s license).
- Creating savings plans.
- Exploring further education, whether tertiary or vocational.
Fishers of Men is committed to helping residents achieve long-term success. By empowering them to live for Christ and equipping them with practical tools, we aim to inspire them to become leaders in their own lives and, in turn, help others on their journey to freedom.
