Fishers of Men cooks approximately 900 meals every week to distribute to people suffering food insecurity and homelessness within the Brisbane and Logan areas.

With the onset of covid, Fishers of Men stopped having public meetings until it was safe to do so, instead, our team began cooking food for people in need and taking it to them – to parks in Logan and the city, and places where people were shut in and in need. Prior to covid, we were cooking 60 meals on a Sunday night and 40 meals on a Weds night.  Post covid, this grew to 420 meals on Sundays, and 350 meals on Wednesdays. Currently, we send out approximately 900 meals every week on our various food van teams. In addition to meals, our various teams give about 120kg of bread, 70kgs of fruit, and at least 40 food parcels each week. They also take out clothes, blankets, and sleeping bags. Our teams also bring spiritual support too. They hand out tracts and Bibles, listen to their needs, offer prayer, share the Gospel, and put on display the love of God to people who need His love.

There are currently five different teams of volunteers offering their time and being sent out every week. We send two teams every Wednesday and Sunday to Brisbane and Logan. The Brisbane team is sent to various locations around the CBD of Brisbane, including Emma Millar Place (Roma St Parklands), King George Square, Queen Street Mall, Fortitude Valley, St John’s Cathedral – where people are rough sleeping – and various boarding houses and crisis accommodation complexes where people need support. While the Logan team is sent to Eagleby Wetlands and Hugh Muntz Park – where increasing amounts of people are living out of their cars or in tents – and to a couple of the local train stations where people gather. A fifth team is sent every Sunday to single parent families in the Logan area. This “Kids run” visits single parent families at their homes and brings meals and food parcels to help them raise their children.
