Besides donations, this is our main source of income. The car wash is manned by volunteers, many of whom have been recipients of our other services at some stage, or have themselves been homeless. It is also part of the program for the men within the Discipleship program.
Afterwards, we have a social evening for volunteers who worked at the car wash - a meal and positive social activity. Through their efforts, these volunteers contribute to a valuable community project and are then able to enjoy some benefits themselves.
Please Note: The owners of the 7/11 we held our car wash at for the last 13 years sold up, and this was used by the 7/11 head office as the catalyst for change. They asked us to finalise our work there and gave us until the 21st of December 2013 to leave. This sent us into a tail spin, however, after prayer, on one of the last days of our car wash at the 7/11 the owner of a Matildas (now Puma) service station approached Bobby and suggested he have our car wash there. We began at that service station, on the Corner of Padstow and Logan Rds, Eight Mile Plains at the end of December.
Then.... another service station owner on Mt Gravatt Capalaba Rd (the Puma) approached Bobby and asked if he could start one there. Again, Bobby felt this was an opportunity the Lord was presenting, so he decided to take it up.
What started as a real wind knocking out experience has developed into potential for growth, Fishers of Men is going from one car wash to 2.
The official addresses are:
Puma: Corner of Padstow and Logan Roads, Eight Mile Plains
Puma: 557 Mt Gravatt/Capalaba Roads, Wishart
To have your car washed is $15, a 4 wheel drive is $18 and now both sites are offering full car detailing (inside and out) for $45!
Come along and support one of the best causes out there from 9am until 3:30pm every Saturday!
As well as supporting our current outreaches, we hope to be able to purchase a property so we can help rehabilitate more people one day.
Please support us. Timing will be the same with start being 9am, finish being around 3:30pm.
Occasionally Fishers of Men participates in a chocolate drive as a fundraiser - People get chocolate and Fishers of Men raises funds - a win-win scenario!
Schools have held fundraising events for FOM, collecting canned food, blankets and donations. A big thank you goes to Calvary Christian College, (both capmuses), Citipointe Christian College, and Westfield Christian College who have all contributed generously.
Many Churches provide supplies and contribute resources, including Logan Uniting, who provides meat for FOM’s dinner for the homeless on Sunday nights once a fortnight, and Rochedale Baptist, who contribute financially, and with donations of blankets and men’s clothes. Many Churches have contributed volunteers at different times, including: Logan Uniting, Rocheale Baptist, the Vine @ Springwood, (ACC), Church of Christ, Hillsong, Rhema, plus several independent fellowships. Awesome people all contributing their time freely!
